if you are reading this on facebook do yourself a favor and come read it on my blog Jonassykes.net

hey everyone, I been meaning to update but for the past couple weeks I been sort of wondering what in the world is there to talk about as there never seems to be a reason to write out anything.

But I am thinking now thats sort of the beauty of having webspace is you can sort of fill it up with the most inane trivial things you can possibly write

I want to start with some ideas I have stolen from other places. Frankly as some of you may know I actually use a quite old computer

it used to look something like this to give you an idea:

(picture)

I was looking over lifehacker and I have discovered a hack for getting youtube videos to play more smoothly.

as you know I take everything with a grain of salt and didn’t immediately base the ideas on actual performance so I tried it and without going into it I am just going to quote the real meat of the article here

Many users, myself included, visit YouTube on an almost daily basis. Ever since Firefox version 2.0 implemented the session restore function, when you are watching a video on YouTube (perhaps on other video sites as well, I haven’t really tested that), you may notice a tiny freeze-up of the video every 10 seconds or so. This happens because the session restore is by default set to save all open tabs every 10 seconds. This is especially noticeable if you happen to have a lot of tabs open at once.

The quick fix for this problem, at least for my own sake, is to increase the time between each of the saves performed by session restore. By opening about:config in your Firefox address bar, then typing browser.sessionstore.interval in the filter box, you’ll see a value of 10000, which is in milliseconds. (Meaning your session is saved every 10 seconds.) I changed this to 300000, or every 5 minutes, as I don’t have the urgent need for tab restoration. If you feel like being more on the safe side, try increasing it to something a bit lower, say 120000, or every 2 minutes.

so for some of you I imagine you have never messed with your firefox about:config settings and even less of you have no real reason to have tab saving set up to happen every minute. So I am going to walk you through but before you do I am going to provide you with a video so that you may judge the performance

Beware of Safey – To The Roof Jump

here is the steps to take and you can use another video or the same if you choose.

in your browser enter the following about:config nothing else no http:// or anything

if you are using the new firefox beta it will warn you that you are about to void the waranty
agree to be careful and in the next screen in the field up at the top of the page copy and paste the following
browser.sessionstore.interval as you can see the interval in which firefox saves tabs is set to every 10 seconds so that anyone who has an older computer that is small but still significant performance problem. I set mine way up to 300000 which has been a significant service improvement. Restart firefox as needed and

also this is for Doug lol:

anyways, I think that is really about it

I want to say that the jackass who I bought my Bomb the Music Industry – Album Minus Band decided he was not going to send me my record and got himself banned from ebay after a couple weeks I filed a claim with paypal and got my money back by force (lol) and instead of buying the same record I decided I really wanted this thing which is back in print for probably a very short time

Assistant, The / Takaru / This Ship Will Sink – Three Way Split 12″

THE ASSISTANT deliver their final song on this split, a 7-minute epic of the same intense and varied hardcore they’ve become known for. With three vocalists and shifting from mathy and technical to quiet and mellow and then to all out crushing intensity, this record has enough ideas to fill and entire album and leaves the listener drained yet energized. It’s a fitting and beautiful epilogue to this bands inspiring existence. THIS SHIP WILL SINK follow with a killer song recorded at the same time as their debut ep that builds on the heavier parts of THE ASSISTANT and is just as shifting and technical but even more brutal. It’s furious yet delicate and complex and always engaging. TAKARU give us three songs of the intense hardcore that they quickly became well known for. Dueling vocalists deliver furious lyrics dissecting the workings of our mixed up world with an acute anger and passion that is hard to ignore. Delivering three songs in under four minutes, TAKARU rarely lets up their immense wall of noise, simply allowing it to swing from thrashy and blistering to plodding and doomy.

This record and these bands are bound together by their critical social commentary and desire to inspire thought and action. Each band uses their songs to examine and communicate about the world around them, offering both lyrics and explanations on topics ranging from the manipulation of statistics to the drug war and how we treat each other and ourselves. Insanely OOP.

Take a listen here

so yeah another thing last night I was enjoying the season finale of Whale Wars and enjoying one of these. And the fucking cable and internet both go out!
null I am PISSED I been waiting weeks for this and the cable decides to take a shit in the only good hour of TV on in the whole week! So I call and talk to suddenlink customer service they don’t know anything. Which I guess I am really not that surprised about. I think Miss Cleo might know more about whats going on then these fools.

anyways I am just rambling on and on. So I am going to end it

good evening everyone, how are you?

Well this last week have been interesting really. Let’s just say I was getting quite frustrated with my job it seems everyone has been down on me lately. But really I take it with only a bit of personal admonishment. I think it effects me more because I am harder on myself than anyone else could ever be.
I finally got my CDC’s this week, I haven’t cracked them yet but I am saving it all for tomorrow. I think I need to slow down more and I need to be more precise. I know my problem is I am mostly distracted. I know tomorrow is going to be a catch up day on quite a few things I need to get done.

I never did make the tech portion of the last entry and I am sorry about that but I am thinking I can sort of make up for it with just a very simple yet powerful application.

So you like music? Obviously its pretty much the social glue of 99% of my friendships lol

here is the best desktop music application I have ever used and when you follow my steps to downloading and installing this you will see why.

I introduce to you my new obsession: Spotify!

before clicking the link you might want to know that if you are in America you are not licensed to use this product. And if you go do click the link above it will tell you just that.

the reason:

“Here at Spotify we believe that Everyone Loves Music, that’s why we aim to legally bring all the worlds music to everyone, everywhere and are currently working really hard to achieve this. While Spotify is not currently available in your country we do hope to launch in more places in the future. Until then you can catch up on all the latest news at Spotify blog and for more information on Spotify, please see our Frequently Asked Questions or our Press page for the journalists out there.”

The workaround

1. use any of the UK proxies out there like [http://www.daveproxy.co.uk]

2. Enter http://www.spotify.com/ in the field and proxyfy!

3. Sign up. Say that you are from the UK and use A9 9AA as your postal code.

4. Download application.

5. Profit

it’s an amazing product, you can stream just about anything….and it’s instant.

I don’t advocate you do this if laws and your local laws and customs in your country forbid you from using it. lol

Music:

I GOT IT!

Ska-Core Devil & More

I knew I had it in the bag based on how much I set to snipe with. The winning bid of this was $28.87 Ska-Core the Devil & More – UK Import 12″ (first/only pressing) I have seen this sell for at least a hundred dollars in the past. This record is unique because this was the first and only record the BossToneS ever had pressed by a major label before starting their own vinyl record label Big Rig records. It’s a UK import and it’s never sold on its own after this pressing. It is usually coupled with the BossToneS first album release on a major label Don’t Know How to Party as a 10″ on blue and red swirl. This is a black 12″ and one of probably only a handful left in the world. I got it from someone in Arizona…lol absolutely amazing, if you have never heard this album its 80% covers from the likes of Bob Marley, SSD, Minor Threat, Angry Samoans and the cd version has a hidden track 30 minutes after the last track ends which is a double live song. It’s a great deal for a BossToneS collector like me.

I also got myself a copy of Bomb The Music Industry – Album Minus Band (finally) I got it on some sort of green clear. I don’t really care to get a super rare version of this record because I know its outside of my price range and I don’t really care lol its out of 500 and is the least rare of the 1st pressing. I paid right under 10 shipped. Now I have them all in some form or another.
and the big find of this week is this thing

CTL – S/T 7″ 5.00 shipped on transparent purple limited to 150 this is sort of different but its really solid check it out myspace has lyrics and a link to download the whole album. Really good stuff, when you are in the mood to punch people in the face!

that does it for this week thanks for all you do dear TV viewers!

Music :  Fucked Up - Year of the Pig

I been messing with the idea of making this post for the past 4 or 5 days now. As I was laying in bed unable to sleep feeling very dissociated from the medication I decided to make one hell of an update.

Let’s start with the important things, I have no more wisdom teeth!

wisdom teeth

it was odd after the gas was turned on I started sucking it down as fast as I could because I was scared I would feel ANYTHING next thing I knew it was over but I drifted in and out of consciousness. I heard the dentist talking to his assistant about religion and such things it was actually sort of a surreal experience to be in that state and hear things like that.

Been doing okay on the recovery I suppose, it still hurts every once in awhile. Got 2 days off work to help with the recovery and I strategically planned them to coincide with my days off already. It’s good I haven’t had 4 days off in a long time now.

Let’s talk music!

first of all let’s go over some of the deals I have scored, it’s been a good ebay week for me.

Giants - They, The Undeserving

Giants – They, The Undeserving
5.52 + 4.00 shipping

that is 2 dollars less than when I was actually ABLE to buy it new! MY max bid on this handsome thing was 25.00 dollars! God I love the recession! Now I am only missing the Green with White Splatter tour edition of this fantastic record! IF anyone out there has it I am motivated to buy!

Also picked this thing up new as a pre-order

O Pioneers - This is How I Feel

O PIONEERS!!! “Limp Bizkit covering Limp Bizkit” 7″ brown cover

O Pioneers!!!. The 7″ will be released by Whoa Oh Records in a one time pressing of 300 copies on black vinyl (50 will have white covers (the VC exclusive) and the rest will have brown covers (we will have 50 for sale). When I asked Eric from OP!!! about the 7″, he said, “For right now we are calling the song “limp bizkit covering limp bizkit”. cause thats how much style i have. As a description, all covers will be hand screened and die cut. This a one sided, one song 7″. the rest of the info will be on the backside of the jacket!”
for 3.00 + 2.99 shipped

got my eye on a couple more records its a little premature but let’s just say if I get this next one I will be a very very happy camper and if I don’t then I am going to go through with an original plan on picking up everything I been meaning to get from the Denovali record distro. The Mylene Sheath (the best label EVAR!) is releasing a bad ass record from the band JUNIUS entitled “The Martyrdom of a Catastrophist”. Which is going to be released on 10.13.09. Like all of the pre-orders from this label my initial instinct is to buy the most limited as soon as possible since they most likely won’t last. I am sort of falling behind though as I never did pick up the Caspian – Tertia on opaque maroon vinyl which is limited to 700. I need to get it but I already pre-ordered it on the other two formats. But I will get it eventually.

This is the part of the entry where I name drop what I have been listening to

Riding Alone For Thousands Of Miles – A Boldogság Minden Reményét Elragadták – Wow okay, let me just tell you how much I love this without making it to big of a production. IF you like Godspeed You Black Emperor! You will most likely fall in love with this. I don’t want to repeat what has already been said already here

Riding Alone For Thousands Of Miles – A Boldogság Minden Reményét Elragadták riding alone..

this band doesn’t have a myspace you are just going to have to trust me!

Also I don’t know why I am the last to hear just about everything amazing sometimes but I been listening to a disproportionate amount of the band Fucked Up which is pretty much some of the most clever and innovating stuff I have ever heard. One track in particular off the Year of the Pig album with the track of the same name clocks in at 18:35 of beautifully dizzy raw and emotional meshing of different styles of music.

Fucked Up!

unfortunately I cannot find it for streaming on any of the major websites including DRM supporting little bitches Imeem who used to not care. Oh well free publicity be damned!

I am sure there is more but with the drugs whatnot I can’t seem to think of anything so I am going to end it here. I think I might do an update tomorrow with some Tech stuff. Take care

Music :  If These Trees Could Talk - Above The Earth, Below the Sky

booyah suckas its another edition of sitting there reading this stuff I write.

Well its another week down like another week wasted. I am beginning to see the not so glamorous parts of my job and how I am left to take care of these things. I don’t want to complain to much about my job but let’s just say I really look forward to my weekends. But enough of that….

Goals
It’s been tougher lately to save money my compulsive yet buyers remorse attitude is kind of getting in the way. I am still managing to save a little bit each month and I am proud of that. I am still working on getting out of debt I am almost at a point where my savings = my debt and I promise it will be gone by the end of the year.

Music
what an amazing time in music, I do think I have found one of my new favorite distros they are from Europe so shipping might be a little more but they do have some amazing bands across the Pond here are a few of them I would check out.

These links will take you to a page where you can listen/download the album for free as well as purchase vinyl:

    Life

I been feeling pretty good, I have been having some minor problems with a couple people at work trying to throw their stripes in my face. As if I gave a flying shit about some nonsense like that. People just trying to bring me down. I don’t let anyone put baby in a corner so it’s all good. I keep my head held high and they don’t know how to handle it mostly. As soon as they figure out I am not a target. Other than that waiting on my upgrade training still, hopefully I get it soon so I can start the process and I will then only have to wait a year to get my skill level and off to school I go.

um yeah I might have more later have a good weekend everyone!

Music :  The Mighty Mighty BossToneS - 20th Century Collection

Well its time for 4th of July fun in the sun and all that!

Me and the wifey are going out to buy some fireworks with my friend from Tech school and some buddies from work. Then we are going to go watch Transformers 2 and get some dinner. It’s going to be a good day and tomorrow we have a BBQ and whatnot with my boss from work.

I had a really trying day yesterday I kind of gave up in my mind about mid job, it’s such a dangerous way to be. I was sick and tired of what I was doing and it made me really sad. But as soon as I was released I said FUCK THAT. I seriously feel great because regardless of whats going on and what people say and their expectations of me I am awesome.

I think regardless of my job I am enjoying everything else going on in fact I have personally a lot to look forward to. The BossToneS are done with recording the new album and are mastering now here is what will be on the new album cause I am a ninja like that.

    New album master list

Caspian is releasing a new album Tertia and have been dropping the occasional song on the internet here and there to pump us up! Amazing stuff

My wonderful wife has promised to buy me a record. So I am having her pick me up a copy of the newly re released Slapstick discography on 2XLP ON clear. Isn’t she great?

So yeah it’s a good day I picked up a new video card and ram for my computer just waiting on that. I bought 512mb of ram and got a sweet ECS cheapo 512mb Nvidia video card. So my computer can get over itself.

good last week financially back to saving some money which is always good I am back to about 30%. of my take home

so Al Franken finally did it (that is just out of control)

also I think I need to promote one more album,

    Neon Creeps

I cannot say enough about this Neon Creeps by the Band O’Pioneers I absolutely LOVE it, I think it might be one of my top 5 listened to records of the year. The lyrics are honest and heartfelt and really well wrote. I think the music matches the sort of manic personality of the words. You can download it for free and read the lyrics here I plan on getting this thing on clear green pretty soon probably in another couple weeks. Enjoy!

Everybody knows that the dice are loaded
Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed
Everybody knows that the war is over
Everybody knows the good guys lost
Everybody knows the fight was fixed
The poor stay poor, the rich get rich
    That’s how it goes
    Everybody knows
Everybody knows that the boat is leaking
Everybody knows that the captain lied
    Everybody got this broken feeling
Like their father or their dog just died

    Everybody talking to their pockets
Everybody wants a box of chocolates
    And a long stem rose
    Everybody knows

Everybody knows that you love me baby
Everybody knows that you really do
Everybody knows that you’ve been faithful
Ah give or take a night or two
    Everybody knows you’ve been discreet
But there were so many people you just had to meet
    Without your clothes
    And everybody knows

    Everybody knows, everybody knows
    That’s how it goes
    Everybody knows

    Everybody knows, everybody knows
    That’s how it goes
    Everybody knows

And everybody knows that it’s now or never
Everybody knows that it’s me or you
And everybody knows that you live forever
Ah when you’ve done a line or two
Everybody knows the deal is rotten
Old Black Joe’s still pickin’ cotton
    For your ribbons and bows
    And everybody knows

And everybody knows that the Plague is coming
Everybody knows that it’s moving fast
Everybody knows that the naked man and woman
Are just a shining artifact of the past
Everybody knows the scene is dead
But there’s gonna be a meter on your bed
    That will disclose
    What everybody knows

And everybody knows that you’re in trouble
Everybody knows what you’ve been through
From the bloody cross on top of Calvary
    To the beach of Malibu
    Everybody knows it’s coming apart
Take one last look at this Sacred Heart
    Before it blows
    And everybody knows

    Everybody knows, everybody knows
    That’s how it goes
    Everybody knows

    Oh everybody knows, everybody knows
    That’s how it goes
    Everybody knows

    Everybody knows

Music :  Ryan Farish - Seasons Change

This week at work has been sort of arduous. I am really looking forward to a little downtime.

So let’s see I am upgrading my computer in a week or so. As some of you know I am working with ancient technology. I have dual screen monitors but I don’t have a graphics card that supports it in the computer I am currently using. I am also getting a another stick of ram so I can finally have a gig of memory. I must say though it’s only slightly noticeable that I am using 504mb of ram.

I have been messing with my phone a little more than normal. I updated the OS and have been downloading a few new apps to help me keep up with my life. I notice I have a lot of improved memory usage with the upgrade. Youmail visual voicemail is pretty amazing I must say. I also notice that with the BB Storm putting most of your Home screen icons into folders so that it doesn’t have to continuously load 40 icons everytime I go to my home screen helps with memory usage.

I also found a sweet new app called Mobiola xPlayer Lite that helps run streaming radio online. It’s pretty amazing I can stream DI.fm stations on it at 96kbps pretty seamlessly. Speaking of which I have found a couple pretty sweet stations I absolutely love Psy Chill and Chillout Dreams

I have been doing pretty well at work, other than it being super hot. Of course I am still treated like an idiot. But that’s all with good reason since I really have no idea what I am doing still. Other than that really life is pretty easy going for the moment.

Next month should be more of the same I don’t really foresee any big changes. I am going to get my CDCs and pretty much start them immediately the sooner I get my upgrade training the sooner I can go back to school and get my life underway. Well that’s about it I suppose.

I figured I made a pretty useless post so let’s fill this baby up with a little of that ol filler material..

    First of all Iran

    DAMN RIGHT! BRING THE RUCKUS!

Secondly I have a few records in the que waiting to be delivered.

Of course I am still waiting for my damn Bomb The Music Industry on blue clear vinyl. My two Streetlight Manifesto pre-orders. My damaged copy of Windmills by the Ocean and a new record which I purchased yesterday which I am absolutely stoked about.

    Classics Of Love
    Classics of Love

This if you don’t know this is Jesse Michaels of Operation Ivy, Common Rider, Big Rig new band. Take a listen below the full album is up for streaming. It’s pretty solid stuff for it just being an EP Demo basically. It’s a band called Hard Girls with Jesse Michaels on Vocals and his phenomenal writing style.

Let’s see work has been going better I notice the less I expect to learn the more I do. Haha I been hanging out a little bit with some of the guys from the truck at work a little more. They kind of approach me cautiously and are still trying to place me. I find myself interjecting and it works pretty well.

I been finding I am a bit more proficient in my job and am a bit more envious of those who know more than me. The weather sucks to be in but whatever I lived in AZ most of my life a little humidity won’t kill me. Friday is a down day so I get the day off from work even though I still have to show up for a squadron picture and a mandatory picnic. (yeah you read that right)

Oh and I want to tell you if you are paying for services that you don’t use on your cell phone and they say YOU CAN’T GET YOUR MONEY BACK even though you never used them…even if YOU added them…hang up and call someone that can help you.

I want to share with you a email I got today proof that if you call the right people you can get what is rightfully yours REMEMBER YOU ARE THE ONE’S THAT GIVE THESE GREEDY ASSHOLES JOBS!

I been neglecting this thing for awhile because I have been busy and at a loss for what I would say. So let’s not make this a habit and remember that I am not writing for you I am writing for me and if you believe anything else you are an idiot.

I been thinking I need to start reading more so if you know of something I must absolutely read and I won’t be bored to tears with please let me know. I am thinking I need to restart up because after I get off work most days I don’t even want to look at my computer. Also if anyone can think of something I can use this space for other than blabbering on I would love that.

I am still waiting on my upgrade training I will post my progression with that and when I enroll in school. I want to take some Clep tests but I have to get over there in my off time to schedule the things. Anyways I am done.
